The head impulse test (HIT), and in particular the instrumental setup (video head impulse test, vHIT), represent a fast and efficient investigation method for the rapid differentiation between a brain stem infarction or cerebellar infacrtion and acute vestibular loss accompanied by a symptom constellation of acute dizziness with nausea, vomiting and horizontal spontaneous nystagmus.
Abstract
The Suppression Head Impulse Paradigm (SHIMP) is an extension of the existing diagnostic capabilities using the video head impulse test (vHIT). It enables the estimation of a vestibular residual function of the affected side from patients which suffer from neuropathia vestibularis.
